Baptism is the beginning of a lifelong journey of following Jesus.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I’ve commanded you, and I will be with you always, even to the end of the age.
— Matthew 28:19-20

Water poured on someone’s head while words are spoken. It sounds so simple, utterly ordinary. And yet when this ordinary water is connected with God’s word, God works a miracle. Through baptism He gives new life, forgives sins, pours out His Spirit, and enlarges His family here on earth.

It’s as if the heavens are torn open and God is beaming with pride, “You are my child, whom I love. With you I am well-pleased! I have called you by name; you are mine!” Incredible!

Since God is the one doing the work in baptism, even infants, who can’t confess faith in Jesus, are invited to receive this gift. On the other hand, if you’re an adult who’s never been baptized, why not now?

Do you want to follow Jesus but don’t know where to start? Are you seeking to raise a son or daughter as a follower of Jesus?

Begin with baptism.

How it happens?
Prince of Peace celebrates baptisms during weekend worship services in order to share the joy of what God is doing and pray for each new brother or sister in Christ. Baptism is offered on second and fourth weekends of each month. Private baptisms are also available upon request.

Anytime you journey into new territory, it’s best to enlist the help of guides. These people help model for you how to live and show you where to go. Parents as well as godparents, or sponsors, have the privilege and the responsibility of serving as guides, spiritual leaders for the one being baptized. These godparents can be chosen by the baptized or the parents of the one being baptized, or the church can recruit individuals to step into this role as you might need. Journeying with Jesus is best when we do it together.

Each spring we offer a First Communion workshop for children in grades 5 through 9.

Take and eat. This is my body given for you… Take and drink. This is my blood shed for you for forgiveness.
— Matthew 26:26

The goal is to help students understand the gifts God gives through this holy meal and to prepare them to take communion for the first time.

Students and their parent(s) will learn the connection between the first Passover with Moses to the holy meal celebrated today through hands-on activities, family discussions, and a taste of the seder meal.

The next workshop is scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 2025 in conjunction with a church-wide Passover Seder Meal.

Students who participate in the class on Saturday will take their first Communion during the Maundy Thursday worship service on April 17, 2025.

Communion is celebrated during worship on the first, third, and fifth weekends of each month. Request communion kits for live stream worship at home here.

Confirmation

At Prince of Peace we believe most children are ready to take ownership of their faith in approximately seventh or eighth grade.

The Lord himself will lead you and be with you. He will not fail you or abandon you, so do not lose courage or be afraid.
— Deuteronomy 31:8

By this age students are able to understand biblical truths for themselves, learn Lutheran teachings, and stand up publicly to say, "This is what I believe."

How to confirm your faith:

Attend the two-year class in 7th and 8th grade, attend worship regularly, and serve in your community.

Each week’s lesson includes a take-home “Family Time” activity. This time allows students to continue discussing and wrestling with the topic of the week with their parents. Statistics show that parents are a child’s number one spiritual mentor. As a church, POP wants to partner with parents as they walk on this journey of faith discovery with their child. We encourage parents and youth to seriously discuss if the youth is ready to take the first step of confirming this faith as their own. When the youth decide they are ready for that step, they are invited to participate in the Rite of Confirmation during a designated worship celebration in April.

Marriage is a huge milestone in the life of a couple, and we cherish the opportunity to support you as you prepare for this journey.

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and the two become one flesh.
— Genesis 2:24

Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”
— Revelation 14:13

Death is difficult. We are honored to provide an environment where you can grieve, remember, and celebrate your loved one. As Christians, we do grieve but with genuine and unshakable hope in the resurrection.
